Latur Pattern is an educational technique that has recently emerged in Latur as a standard for secondary, higher secondary and university education in Maharashtra. This educational technique has been widely adopted in other parts of the state, due to its track record of producing good results. The emphasis of the pattern is on completing coursework earlier in the year and then focusing on practicing for examinations.
The Latur Pattern of study involves continuous and methodical practice of mock question-papers for months before the actual board exams. This methodology has been criticized by some educators for focusing too much on exams and less on learning.
Schools in Latur are run either privately by the LMCor or by trusts and individuals. The majority of city residents prefer private schools because of better facilities, and, in some cases, for use of proper English language as the main means of instruction. A number of schools are more than 50 years old. Among the best-known are Keshavraj, Deshikendra & Rajasthan Schools. All schools are affiliated either with the Maharashtra state SSC Latur Board or the all-India Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) and CBSE boards.
All professional colleges in Latur are affiliated to the Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University. Latur has many colleges and with the emerging pattern seeing success in Latur, the Chief Minister Mr. Vilasrao Deshmukh approved a University Sub Centre in Latur, which is being developed in Rameshwar, 12 k.m from Latur.
